Royal Free Food Program
Mural panel — aerosol, latex, and gold leaf
Black Panther Park, Skyway, WA · 2026
The Black Panther Party’s free breakfast and food programs were among the most impactful community health initiatives in American history, and they happened not through government but through collective will. This mural panel, installed at Black Panther Park in Skyway, takes that legacy as its root and extends it forward.
The painting proposes that the earth itself is the original free food program. When we tend the land, grow with intention, and share what it gives us, we participate in something ancient and sovereign — older than any institution, more generous than any policy. The piece brings my vision directly into the Skyway community where I was raised — a neighborhood long overlooked by the city it borders, now claiming its own space of resilience, learning, and abundance.
